Anna and the Pony 37

Quietly the group slipped past some bushes that hid the secret path and they followed it to the mouth of a hidden cave.

“This is it!” Buzzy exclaimed.

No sooner did Buzzy get that out of his mouth when a dangerously-sharp-looking beak appear from inside the cave. It belonged to a golden eagle that came out of the cave’s darkness looking ever so military and he stood at attention and said, “The king and queen are with general White Wig. He would be the only bald eagle you will see among the group.” The golden eagle pointed and the group headed in that direction, moving past all kinds of birds. Most were birds of prey. There were ospreys, owls of many different sub-species, eagles, falcons, kites, gulls, vultures, buzzards, harriers, hawks and among the group was a sub-group of water predators. Ducks of all kinds, swans, loons, coots and grebes. Even a few geese.

They were all lit up by small holes at the top of the cave which allowed light to spill in. Further back into the cave there were torches lit to provide more light. As the group moved through the crowd they eventually came upon a group that was within the larger group. This was where the king and queen were seated. They were being briefed by their army leader, General White Wig. A large bald eagle with a stern look on his face. When the general took notice of the group’s arrival he stopped talking to the king and queen and turned his attention to the group.

“Excellent!” General White Wig exclaimed. “We can now go forward with our plan to attack the Dark Queen’s castle.”

Upon seeing her parents, Anna threw off her disguise and began running to them crying out, “Momma, Poppa!”
