Just then a squirrel came buzzing through the little dark area. As the squirrel went past she said in a buzzy voice, “Mrs Needy got all messed up by Stephen King. She be wearing an eye patch now.” Funny offered some facts. “Did you know that cats get their depth perception from one eye where as humans require both eyes for it. It was explained to me that is why cats are so very good at jumping accurately. It also seems a wise choice for cats since they often lose one eye during their consistent fighting.” “Why Funny you are so entertaining. I bet you are going to make a very good husband for the right lady when she comes along.” Polly said with optimism. “What if she has already come along but can’t be with me because she isn’t free.” Funny asked. “Do you think she would choose me if she was free? “I know she would choose you if it were up to me. I er, mean up to her.” Polly said, turning about five shades darker in the face. “Here comes my owner. It’s time to be put away for the night. Good night Funny. See you tomorrow.” “Good night Polly.” Funny said while waving at her. “Yes you certainly will see me tomorrow.” Funny watched her walk away until she was picked up and placed into her cage. The human smiled at Funny as he walked back past to go back inside the house. The afternoon was at end. Evening was the sign to every rabbit to get inside and grab a few winks sleep before going out in the darkness to forage. Rabbits, unlike other animals, sleep for just a short period, several times through the day and night. Other interesting facts about rabbits. There are only three animals belonging to the rabbit species. Rabbits, Hares and Pikas. Of the three there are some important differences. Pikas are smaller than the other two. They have rounded ears and no tail. They are found in mountains or hilly areas. Most rabbits live underground. The exception being the cotton tail which lives the same as the hare; above ground in what could be barely called a nest. Their idea of a nest is a shoddy-looking effort at best. Rabbits prefer to hide from predators. Hares are runners. Rabbits live together in a colony. Hares live alone except for when they get together to mate. Rabbits are known fighters among their own kind. The males will fight for who gets the majority of the females. Hares do not fight. They will pair up and mate but they do not fight. Most the time hares live alone where as the rabbit lives in groups called colonies. next page | ![]() ![]() |
