“I think we accomplished your good deed for the day, dear Splash.” Anna said, patting the horse on its neck. They were flying above it all just watching as the villagers were coming out and seeing the pasture was ready for seed. That they had four new horses to finish breaking. Which would later be sold to pay for the new school. Suddenly an alarm sounded. Just as it went off, came Dan the Dam Duck and Buzzy the drunk buzzard. The latter was about two hundred yards ahead of Dan and he flew in his usual, wobbly, drunken way. That didn’t stop him from announcing a warning to his friends. “Geese Police! Geese Police! Time to go! Now! Geese Police!” Buzzy went flying right on past Anna and Splash. Dan came next. He flew up to Anna and Splash saying, ” You heard ‘im! He might be drunk, but he aint wrong! Come on princess. You are going to have to find somewhere else to spend the night.” Dan motioned for them to follow and then he took off in the direction of where Buzzy had gone. Very soon Splash had caught up side by side with Dan. Past farm after farm and pasture after pasture they went. Up ahead they could see Buzzy every once in a while fly too low and kick up some dust. Or he would fly too close to a tree and almost knock himself out of the air by hitting a branch. Feathers and leaves would both scatter in the air and then slowly begin their descent to the ground. Buzzy would somehow continue on. Watching Buzzy bounce off different things as he flew, Dan the Dam Duck said, “If he was any other species they would have either shot him or captured him to see what was wrong with his head. Since he’s a buzzard, nobody really cares. So they leave him alone to fly around the sky half whacked out of his little pea-sized brain. Aaaannnnd, this is what you get.” Dan shook his head. “We can stop when we get over this next hill. There’s a little pool of water and a place which will suffice for sleeping the night. Sorry I can’t offer you a buffet of fish this time.” Anna smiled and said, “That’s okay Dan. You have been more than wonderful. I must admit I am a little sleepy. Will we be safe from the Geese Police? “Don’t you worry princess. I will keep guard while you are sleeping. Eh, Buzzy might help too. In case I get sleepy.” Dan didn’t look too confident about leaving Buzzy in charge. “But that’s just in case of emergency. Most likely I will be able to stay awake. Think of Buzzy as a back up, back up.” next page | ![]() |
