Anna and the Pony 43

“That the magic would not work or be messed up when used against water foul.” Dan finished. “Sound thinking if you ask me.”

“Did somebody ask him?” Ozzy replied. “What is most messed up was when I pressed the little green shamrock to answer the question, why would you do that? His reply? He said he wasn’t God. Don’t expect miracles. We are lucky that he felt like sharing any of his magic at all, so we have to settle for getting it with the conditions set forth.”

“Oh I get it. It isn’t life or death important whether the real world gets to have a Santa Claus, or Easter Bunny, or Tooth Fairy, because it is true the world could go on just fine whether they were there or not. So apparently the little magic stuff doesn’t matter in the big picture.” Buzzy said in a huff.

“Wait. You are missing the bigger picture which might have been the leprechaun’s point. Yes it is nice to have those characters but what is nicer is the spirit they represent. For instance not everybody believes in Santa. But for the moment lets say they did. And their reason to believe is because they have all seen him and know for sure he is real. But don’t you see? BIG DEAL! Even if everybody has seen him. Big deal that Santa exists. If everybody doesn’t adopt his cheerful and giving mood. It doesn’t matter how wonderful he is. The most you will experience will be a few brief moments when he drops off gifts. It is nice but no different than on your birthday when an uncle drops off a gift. Nice yes, Christmas time? Hardly.” Dan drew a breath and continued.

“He brings an atmosphere that actually transcends past those that believe in Santa. He actually makes people that do not celebrate Christmas, still be in a giving, forgiving, and charitable mood. Simply because they know others are going to be the same. See? You don’t have to believe in Santa to automatically find yourself being nicer to others. It is a circle created by the belief that Santa exists.”

“So what you’re saying is that it doesn’t really matter whether magicland continues to exist, as long as the belief that it exists continues. And by magicland I mean Santa, Easter Bunny etc.” Anna asked.
