Bunny Babies 20

Which is exactly what happened. The pin came out and Polly pushed open the cage door and then she courageously leapt out the cage and landed on the ground below. At the very same time the empty aluminum cans alarm began to do their job.

The house lights came on and outside the critters could all hear the screech of a cat followed by the sound of something being chased around the house. Just as Funny and Polly were leaving the back yard to follow his escape route, the house back door came flying open and then Stephen King came flying out the door. Some curse words were spoke by the human who had opened it and then there was a slamming shut of the door behind him.

Funny glanced over his shoulder at the door being slammed shut and said under his breath, “Thanks Stephen King!”

There was no more time to think about it now however. He followed his soon-to-be-wife through the hole in the fence and then down the path so often traveled that it was nothing but dirt directly below where their feet hit the ground. They scampered down to the spot where you cross over into the Robinsons yard. From there it was a quick scamper and they would be at the entrance of the new burrow.

There was one other party who took action while all the other chaos was happening. It was the male rabbit that had been in the cage with Polly. He had been sleeping when they broke out but he woke up. He hopped over to the edge of the cage and looked down at the ground. He should have held up there. Instead he made the choice to go after Polly even though he knew she wanted nothing to do with him as a husband. It would prove to be the last bad decision he ever made. You see he hesitated in his escape until the house lights came on and then he heard the door open and then slam shut. He should have stayed in the cage because when he jumped out he never made it to the ground. A cat’s paw came out of the darkness grabbing the male out of the air. He was never seen again.

Funny held Polly up from going through the fence into the Robinsons. He stuck his head through the fence doing the patented in and out glance. He didn’t see anything the first time peaking through. Now was the really big moment. You see, the first time you look through a fence is risky, but there is only time for seeing one direction. To stay longer would ensure giving predators time to catch your head. You had to be in and out in one fluid motion. No, the real risk was the second time you looked through the hole. To see if it was clear the other direction. Because now the predator has had time to stay on super-alert status. They are now on the other side of that hole knowing you are going to pop your head through again.
