Bunny Babies 5

Chapter 2
The colony known as the Bunny family broke up into different groups. Each group had their own agenda. The older males would assemble down by the grazing garden and spend their time munching on goodies and discussing whatever was currently of concern or interest. The older females would be spending their time either cleaning out the homes or babysitting for their younger relatives who would be out romancing as most young creatures do.
Funny Bunny and his friends went racing around the yard feeling their youth. They played games like ‘you’re it’, hide and seek, red rover and catch me if you can. It was just another warm, beautiful day. Then suddenly there was a shadow cast upon the grassy area where Funny Bunny and his friends were playing. The shadow was in the shape of a large cat.

Looking around the back yard you would never have guessed so much danger and action was about to happen. Over in one corner of the garden were three older rabbits. Fuddy and two of his old buddies. In the opposite but same end of the garden were the older mother rabbits. Then out in the grass were where the kids were playing. Hopping this way and then that; they had endless amount of energy to spend.

Funny and friends had taken to playing soccer. They were passing the ball around not paying attention to anything except the ball. Then the ball was kicked over to a corner of the yard that was dark with shadows. Funny hesitated to go into the dark area. Something just felt off about the whole matter. He glanced over his shoulder to see if Polly Purebred, the girl he wanted to marry, was watching.

She was! He had to go into the darkness and retrieve the miniature soccer ball. He couldn’t look like a coward in front of her. Not this girl. So he summoned all his courage and took a hop into the shadowy world. Now understand rabbits naturally are active at night. So it wasn’t that he couldn’t see at all. But at night the areas which are just shadowy during the day, become hiding places for predators at night. Lucky for Funny it wasn’t night time so he could see without too much trouble. He didn’t see any sort of threat.

then the shadows got even darker. Something was blocking out the small amount of light that had been able to reach the area. Funny turned to look over his shoulder to see what had changed. Standing there blocking the sunlight was the shape of a cat. Funny looked closer and was able to tell it was Mrs Needy. A cat from one street over. She had him dead to rights too. Funny had let himself get caught in a place where there was only one way out and blocking that exit was a big, mean, cat!
