Buzzy didn’t let it bother him. In fact, he continued, “… blue cheese, fish … “ “Stop! Just stop. Okay, you’ve sort of made a point. Lots of things smell bad that we eat. Don’t expect to see me at your table, that’s all I’m saying.” Dan said while wafting the air in front of his face like he was smelling something dead. “Are we going to follow those short partiers with the shaggy dogs? If so, we better get a move on. If they hit a stretch where the fog is heavy enough, we won’t be able to see them. Not without giving ourselves away.” Buzzy said, then he allowed himself to fall off the perch and he put out those wide buzzard wings and caught an updraft which took him gliding quietly over the street below. Others had started to wonder out onto the street, heading for home after a night’s drinking. Buzzy struggled to keep track who he was following.
Dan suddenly caught up. The two continued to fly silently over the road below but then they came to an unhappy realization. “They ditched us. I don’t see them down there any more.” Buzzy said, still trying to peer through the darkness and fog. “Its no use.” Dan sighed. “We’ll have to try again tomorrow. I think that may have been the ones we are looking for.” “Okay lets go get some sleep and we can pick this up again tomorrow late night. I guess we will find out tomorrow if the ‘little monsters’ struck while we were failing at our job to catch them.” The two turned and began to go back the way they came. Suddenly there was a loud crash that caught their attention. “Buzzy! Did you hear that?” Dan asked. “Of course I did you soon-to-be feather duster. I imagine the king heard that noise. Lets go see what caused it?” Dan led the way. They flew up an alley that they had previously went right by. “I think it came from up here.”
“There’s a door that’s half open, up ahead on the left.” Buzzy said. He allowed himself to glide down to a soft landing just outside the half-open door. Dan came in wings flapping. As he landed in a rather awkward instance causing him to have to flap his wings to right his miscalculation; Dan wondered to himself how Buzzy could be such a graceful flyer when he wasn’t drinking and by comparison how bad he was otherwise. He didn’t have the chance to think it through however because Buzzy was already opening the door the rest of the way and then he peeked his head inside . “Hello? Hello? Anybody here? Just then something covered in hair or fur, came flying out of a bedroom along with what seemed like several other beings. Both Buzzy and Dan went flying when the hair-ball shot between them. Following close behind were the others, which both of the friends knocked to the ground would describe as appearing to be little monsters. The last one to leave the establishment stopped long enough to spray paint a pair of fangs on the apartment wall. Then he raced after his partners in crime.
Buzzy got back on his feet and then found Dan who was still trying to get back up but had already started talking to himself. Or at least, Buzzy figured he was talking to himself because nobody else was listening to what he had to say. “A lot of nerve. That’s what those little monsters have is a lot of nerve.” Dan said as he brushed off his wings before accepting help back up from his friend. “Did you get a look at any of their faces?” Buzzy sighed and said, “No. Didn’t get the chance. What was the first thing that hit us? That wasn’t a dog. It looked like a miniature human being. One covered in fur. Or hair. One or the other.” “The rest of them looked like little Draculas.” Dan noted. “I think they call that ‘goth’. Of course, I could be wrong. I never was able to keep up on how all that worked. I just know if they wear a lot of black and use a very white-colored make up that it is usually because they are belonging to the goth folk. Especially if they are in the younger crowd.” “The older ones don’t exist?” Buzzy asked. Next Page
