“I don’t think we’re gonna do any more fishing at this location.” Jess said. “I’m thinking you may have been right. That the Chiha Tanka is being a big elder brother by warning us that trouble is coming. And I think that trouble will come in the form of that Wendigo you mentioned. More to the point are the lackeys. I think I could take the Wendigo. It looks pretty emancipated. The wolf-creatures on the other hand looked like they had very healthy bodies. All three of them were taller than us.” George started to reply but his words were drowned out by a shower of rocks that hit the lake water not far from where the two men had their fire. “If I don’t miss my guess, the next thing we will be seeing is the Wendigo. Grab whatever you want to bring with you and lets get into the water.” Jess said as he moved into the lake. He wasn’t wrong in his prediction. The Wendigo appeared by itself. It moved toward the two men in a lurching, drunken fashion. The two men watched the Wendigo lurch, sway and stumble its way toward them. Then George shook his head and exclaimed, “Its hypnotizing us! Get out into the lake now! It is much closer than we think it is; go now!” George splashed his way out toward the deeper water followed closely by Jess. When he thought he was far enough he turned back around in the direction the Wendigo would be coming only to see it was gone. “Kill your flashlight.” Jess said in a whisper. “No sense in letting them know which way we are going to swim.” next page | ![]() |
